Fabric Refresher

Say 🚫 to Febreze

Home air fresheners and fabric refreshers you can buy at the market or elsewhere like #febreze have known ingredients that research shows are hazardous to our health in many areas. They also all contain #fragrance which is a broad term that is unregulated and can be any combination of unlisted synthetic chemicals adding up to hundreds of ingredients under that one word. These secret chemicals are known for wreaking havoc on the air we breathe, our skin, our respiratory function, and our bodies as a whole. Toxins including endocrine disruptors and carcinogens and so many more. I can’t find a single one in the @environmentalworkinggroup @thinkdirty app rating better than an 8! 10 being the worst.

Here’s an easy and lower cost swap that will not cause you harm, can provide actual benefit, and instead of perfuming an odor, actually works to neutralize and remove odors. #allidoiswin

In a spray bottle, combine:

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Into the salt add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. In this one I used orange💧 x 10(mood enhancer,), lemon💧 x 15 (deodorize, antibacterial, …), bergamot💧 x 5 (helps with anxiety, deodorizes), tea tree💧 x10 (deodorizes, anti-viral/fungal/bacterial/microbial), and lavender 💧 x 10 (disinfecting, soothing).
  • Add a tbs or 2 of witch hazel or rubbing alcohol or pure vodka. This also helps neutralize odor as well as increases speed of drying so spots aren’t left on fabric.
  • Fill the rest of the way with distilled or filtered water. I used my trusty @berkey_filters 🙌🏼
  • Shake, spray, aaaaah.

I did not measure. It’s not a perfect science. And it works. And it smells amazing. And it is not harmful to your health.
