Chlorinated water is great for keeping bacteria at bay. It can also be toxic to our bodies. Chlorine has been linked to health issues including respiratory disease, allergies, skin irritation, and even some cancers. Our skin is a living organism and the largest organ of our bodies. Being submerged in chlorinated water for long periods of time can pose differing level of health risks.
Tap water is also chlorinated. Yep. That’s one reason I saved and researched a ton and finally invested in a @berkey_filters for our drinking water and also for our shower.
I’m not trying to instill fear or ruin all your fun. There are some things we can do!
Vitamin C as ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate neutralizes chlorine. And rapidly! You can use one like this or Sodium Ascorbate, which is ascorbic acid buffered with baking soda. This is my favorite ascorbic acid. It’s non-gmo which is important to me as most ascorbic acid is made from gmo corn that’s highly pesticide laden. It’s pure and clean. It’s effective. We use it for many many things. I’ll share more about it’s other uses another time.
🏊🏼♂️ For swimming in chlorinated pools and hot tubs, rinse off well before and after swimming whenever possible. You can also make a vitamin C spray.
In a spray bottle combine 1/2 cup water with 1/2 tsp of ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate. Spray down the body and hair well before and after swimming. This mix may reduce in effectiveness over the days so it’s best to make a new batch regularly.
💦 For small pools like this in our yard, add 1 tsp of ascorbic acid and give it a few minutes to work it’s magic before the kids go for a soak or splash.
🛁 In the bath add 1 tsp to the tub and wait a few minutes before getting in. I keep a bottle in the bathroom for this purpose and add it to our other #alltdetoxbath combos of goods.
