Looking Forward

Sometimes we look ahead to a special time like a birthday, a milestone, or the new year for a fresh start by lamenting over ways we feel we missed the mark the year before and promising ourselves we’ll do better or be better. We focus on failures and commit to less of them in the year ahead. I like growing and becoming a better me. I hope I always make room for that. A little less toxic in all the ways all the time. Part of that is giving myself and others grace.

I tell the kids often, it’s okay to make mistakes. Mistakes can actually be awesome because mistakes make great teachers.

✨ Beating ourselves up isn’t necessary to build ourselves up.
✨ Regret isn’t required for revision.
✨ Shame isn’t good fuel for sustained success.

You’ve been through a lot. You’ve overcome so much. You did the best you could with what you had and what you knew. You know new things and you’re implementing them as you’re able. You’re doing a good work.

You are not your shortcomings. Your hurts don’t define you. Who you are is so much more than than what you do.

A new year is a great time to start fresh or make some changes. So is ANY TIME. Take the pressure off. Take care of you today. Tomorrow too. You have great purpose. You’re here for a reason. You’re worth fighting for. Celebrate all you’ve accomplished and overcome. Its shaped you. It’s strengthened you. It’s refined you. It’s a big deal.

I like you just the way you are.
